OK, here’s the new Um record I’ve been sitting on for so long. Got the process for CONTEMPT started in January 2014 and I think I’ve had the vinyl for about a year. At first I was holding off so as not to interfere with the Pete Um record on Exotic Pylon, and I wasn’t sure when the Gagarin Cambridge concept joint feat. Um/Doozer/Nochexxx/MFU was going to appear, and then I lost faith in those things ever becoming a reality and thought fuckit I’ll just spoot the fucker out grist-style but then Johnny from Soft Bodies offered to do it with promo and videos etc but February 2015 sounded too far away, but by the time I’d waited for the wine of the cousin to dry in Sas’s Mac etc it was like it seems like up to me. In March 2015.
So this is another 100 copies FTW type deal, but I feel I need to flag up that I’m increasingly less committed to the original program of punishingly expensive self-released shit. It’s possible that I may have had too many children, especially recently, but even so selling stuff at gigs is noticeably dispiriting for even the hottest underground artiste, and it’s not like there isn’t some evil invisible contract between me and Discogs anyway (too many records). So, I don’t know if I’m can be arsed with using the excellent services of Carl Saff mastering and DMS anytime soon, especially concerning reissuing old stuff on vinyl. I think perhaps The Old Album deserves it eventually but fuck the Bumskippers.
So yeah, just a little context. I have no problem with people downloading my music, possibly because nobody does, but if you do want an artifact for whatever reason then here it is. Bits of it are excellent, I would say.

If anyone is running a café which is also a record shop or a clinic or whatever and you think you could sell some copies then get in touch as my terms are very relaxed.

about

Pete Um Cambridge, UK

"A master of the miniature electro-acoustic song-poem, a form he has more or less invented and crystallised himself, his work displays a sardonic wit combined with a healthy misanthropy, in marvellous micro-collages of voice, instruments, samples, and electronics."
